MLS Expansion Teams Design

With the rapid growth of Major League Soccer in the United States I created

branding and kit designs for what possible expansion teams may look like

Tampa Bay Mutiny

This design is based on the name of the Tampa based MLS team from the late 90's. The logo design is designed to be well fit as a badge on a kit (pictured on the right) and displays two sabers connected with what can be seen as a seagull in order to make an M, a logo that can be scaled. This is made to represent the Tampa Bay coastline and reference the Buccaneers NFL team.

The home and away kits are designed to be unique amongst the other teams in the league while still representing the team colors and bay theme. The color schemes were also based loosely on Leeds United in England.

The alternative / third kit is something that could be done in association with the 'Save The Turtles'  initiative. With the Tampa Coastline being an area that turtles hatch, this third kit reps a minimalistic turtle shell print with an alternative, black logo.

San Jose Heat

SJ Heat badge.png

The logo for the San Jose Heat is meant to represent the extreme temperatures found in the area, The design itself is based on the shape of FC Cincinnati's logo with the striping and color that is reminiscent of a hot sauce bottle. The logo also contains the sun icon found on the San Jose city flag.

The goal of the home and away kits for the San Jose Heat is for them to be worn by all genders and have a look that could be worn to the San Jose beaches. The San Jose sun logo also makes an appearance on the back collar.

The third kit is made to pay homage to the San Jose Fire Department. With the forest fires that the California firefighters have to deal with every year, I believe that a team named the Heat would align themselves with such a cause. The design itself pulls inspiration from the outfits worn by firefighters as well as the fire engines they drive.

Las Vegas Spades

Las Vegas is best known for its luxurious casinos on the strip which persuaded me to create the team crest in the style of a poker chip. The patch logo on the right takes this theme a step further by including an outside pattern that you might find on a poker table in one of these casinos.

The color scheme of the home and away kits are grey, white, and black in order to remain synonymous with the other teams located in Las Vegas, the Raiders and Knights. The third kit however, is made to represent the bright lights of the Las Vegas Strip poking through the dark nights in the Nevada desert.
